“I loved our stay and will stay here again for any future trips in the area! Overall the stay was comfortable without any issues. I really enjoyed the homemade breakfast! Staff was very friendly and kind with accommodating dietary restrictions for breakfast. They even went out of their way to make a vegetarian/vegan breakfast option for us! And they provided gluten free options as well. I found the beds comfortable. I also appreciated how they did things to be sustainable and limit single-use plastic. Only downside is that the WiFi was pretty slow and unreliable, but that's more due to the area than any fault of theirs.”

“Rooms large enough to be considered a "suite". Luxurious bedding and towels, boutique soaps, coffee pot, fridge, microwave. GORGEOUS views from the balconies (both of them!), free hot, made to order breakfast, within easy driving distance of some of the best scenery Utah has to offer. We planned to stay one night - decided to stay THREE. Marvelous place!!”

What is the best time of year to visit Bluff, Utah?+
Bluff is great anytime of the year depending on the activity that you are doing. Fall, Winter and Spring are great for hiking in the monuments. Spring, Summer and Fall are perfect for river trips on the San Juan River and driving trips in the area. My personal favorite is winter when you have the Monuments and the back country virtually to yourself.
How far is Bluff from Monument Valley?+
The drive from Bluff to Monument Valley is 45 minutes, a quick drive for more choices in lodging and restaurants.
Is Bluff a good base for exploring Bears Ears National Monument?+
Bluff is your ideal base for exploring Bears Ears National Monument. It is where you can find local guide services, The Bears Ears Education Center and knowledgeable people for accurate information about the Monument. The eastern boundary of the Monument is located 5 miles from La Posada Pintada.
What outdoor activities are available near Bluff?+
There are so many outdoor adventure activities around Bluff. You can choose from short, simple hikes and knowledgeable visitors centers to all day multi-mile backcountry hiking treks. There are guided hiking and river trips available for hiking and driving trails around the area and plenty of places to just go and relax for the day.
How dark are the skies in Bluff for stargazing?+
Bluff Utah was designated as an official Dark Sky Community in 2025. We have a Bortle 2 dark sky rating — Bortle 1 is the darkest and Bortle 10 is the most light pollution. On clear nights you are going to have a tremendous opportunity to lay in a hammock and marvel at the heavens above you in our Sky Garden.
Are there restaurants and shops in Bluff?+
Bluff has great restaurants. We are a small town and not all restaurants are open every day. It is important to check with our front desk staff to get a good picture of what is available when you are in town.
Do I need a 4WD vehicle to explore the area?+
No, you do not need a 4WD vehicle to explore the area. There are certain areas in the backcountry that requires 4 wheel drive but we have itineraries available that are completely accessible by any type of car.
Is there cell service and Wi-Fi in Bluff?+
Bluff is a rural area. Verizon and AT&T are the two cell companies that currently work the best. We do have Wi-Fi available at La Posada Pintada — it can be a little slow at times but it is there.
What should I pack for a trip to Bluff?+
This is very dependent on the time of year you are visiting. Winters are cold but usually dry. Spring and Fall are our best chances for weather and can be quite cool in the mornings and evenings and warm in the day. Summers are hot and dry. We recommend dressing in layers. Sun and wind protection in the form of lightweight long clothing is almost always a great option.
Are there ancient ruins and cultural sites to visit near Bluff?+
Bluff is surrounded by Ancestral Puebloan sites and also surrounded by current indigenous culture as well.
